How does this calculator work?

It computes SDE (Seller's Discretionary Earnings): your annual pre-tax profit, plus your own pay, plus provable add-backs. It then multiplies SDE by a commonly quoted rule-of-thumb multiple range for your industry, roughly 1.5x to 4x depending on the vertical, to produce a value range.

Is this an accurate valuation?

It is an honest estimate, not an appraisal. Real prices are set by real buyers after due diligence, and a specific business can land outside the quoted range in either direction. Use the result as a starting picture and a way to see what moves the number, not as a listing price.

What decides where I land inside the range?

A short list of risk factors: whether the business runs without you, whether the books are provable, the share of recurring revenue, whether the lease, licences, and brand transfer, and how concentrated the revenue is in a few customers. Improving those factors is how owners move from the bottom of the range toward the top.

Do you store what I type?
